Rounding out the list, in order of importance, was Company Values, Job Perks, Creative Benefits (nutrition & wellness programs, paternity leave, etc.), and Work Environment (diversity, dress code, etc.). Additionally, the survey found that the majority of participants were satisfied with their Massachusetts jobs based on the work/life balance factor.

Good News: Massachusetts Jobs Increase

While unemployment in many parts of the nation is on the rise, the Massachusetts job market is going strong. With the unemployment rate holding at a low 4.4%*, jobs in Massachusetts have increased in 2007 with close to 2,900 new jobs being created in just the month of March.

With the upward climb in Massachusetts jobs and Boston jobs alike, what fields are on the upswing? According to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, Massachusetts’ strongest sectors are business, scientific, leisure and hospitality, and professional services.

Following is a breakdown of different sectors and how they’re faring under present economic conditions:

* Education and Health Services

With a decrease of 400 jobs in March, this sector continues to be the strongest in the Massachusetts job market. Over 2007, the sector gained 14,900 Massachusetts jobs and tied with the information sector in posting the highest annual rate of jobs with an increase of 2.4%.

* Professional, Scientific and Business

In March over 1,000 Massachusetts jobs were added in these sectors. This came after a February gain of over 3,100. And with over 488,300 employees of these sectors, overall employment is up from 2% over last year.

* Leisure and Hospitality

An addition of 1,200 new jobs were added to these two sectors in 2007. A total of 305,200 jobs fall under this category, which is an increase of 2,600 jobs over the year.

* Manufacturing, Construction, Information

While manufacturing saw a gain of about 200 jobs in the month of March, employment in this sector is still down by about 1.3% from last year. Construction is also down by 1.5% but gained about 200 jobs in March. The information sector, however, increased by about 200 jobs in March and had an added 2,100 jobs over the whole year of 2007 with a 2.4 % increase.

While these figures are all from 2007, they do signal that Massachusetts jobs and jobs in Boston are still gaining. With the job market continuing to do well, finding jobs in Massachusetts or Boston jobs will be a challenging yet successful effort.
