Jobs in Boston: Today’s Current Market
Lately it seems like you can’t turn on the television, read the newspaper, or browse the web without coming across the dreaded “R” word – Recession. There’s the housing crisis, the energy crisis, and of course the job crisis. Jobs all across America- and that includes Boston jobs and, for that matter, Massachusetts jobs at large- are seemingly “in crisis.” The number of job losses has been on a steady incline lately instead of the decline for which we all hope. Recently news reports have stated that 7.4 million Americans are out of work while there are only 4 million job openings currently available.
If you have had the misfortune of losing your job recently because of the current anxious economic climate, the first recommendation is this: keep hopeful. The “R” word is relatively new- it could turn out to be just a slight hiccup, a small stretch of bumpy road perhaps. Remember, this country has seen recession before and we have always managed to come out on the other side.
The second recommendation is this: be smart. While it is very important to remain positive about the future of our economy, it is equally important to be savvy in your present search for a job. A wonderful way to gain that competitive edge necessary for job procurement is to use an employment agency. Boston is a great city but unfortunately its job market has been affected by today’s shaky economic climate just like any other. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when selecting an employment agency to help find jobs in Boston.
* Find an agency that has been in operation in the Boston area for at least a decade, if not more. This insures they have been around long enough to establish a reputation within the Boston business community.
*Research that reputation. Be sure that were you to be sent on an interview by that employment agency, their backing would be an asset and not a mark against you. An easy way to begin your research is to read that agency’s client testimonials.
*Make sure the employment agency specializes in your work field. It does you no good to sign on with an agency that specializes in the technology sector if you are looking for a job in finance, no matter how great their reputation.
