Boston Jobs Are Going Green

Filed under: Boston Jobs — Boston Jobs Editor @ 7:32 am

Just last month Massachusetts house speaker Salvatore DiMasi unveiled a new energy reform initiative he is calling the Green Jobs Act. It is a plan to “grow the right kind of jobs in Massachusetts.” He plans to invest 50 million dollars in the Green Jobs Act over the next five years.

The green industry sector is a very diverse industry with many different jobs available and necessary from research/technology jobs to accounting/finance to administrative and more. According to the New England Clean Energy Council, the green industry sector is the tenth largest in Massachusetts and it’s growing. This is great news. Massachusetts jobs will benefit greatly from this sector and from DiMasi’s wise plan to invest in it.

So, how do you get that competitive edge to insure that it is you, and not the person next to you, who lands that next great job in this growing industry?

Sign on with an employment agency. Boston is a city with a large business sector, so there are quite a few of them in and around the area.

Be choosy. You can’t be competitive if the agency you sign on with is not. Find an employment agency that has built a solid reputation for themselves within the Boston area business community. The green industry is very new so it will tend to gravitate towards established companies and people wherever possible to help strengthen its foundation.

Look for an employment agency that is itself growing. It is an easy way to determine how successful an agency is at placing candidates. Lastly, take a close look at how the employment agency gives back to the surrounding community, or whether they do at all. The green industry sector has its roots in “doing good” so to speak. Its profits are based on benefiting the world at large. The industry as a whole will be subconsciously attracted to companies who share their view of giving back.

In a time where recession is on the tip of everyone’s tongues and where many industry sectors are having to cut jobs, it is very heartening to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that light is green.
